Invest in Dorcas

Dorcas Trust Development Ltd invests in individuals and small enterprises with the aim of alleviating poverty, restoring dignity and bringing new hope. The funds to do this come from those who share similar aims; they can participate either by making loans, or gifts.

Loans will normally be for three years, interest-free, and will be passed on by the company to the NGO with whom Dorcas is working.

The loans will be converted into €'s or possibly into the local currency and at the end of the three-year term there may be a fluctuation in the value of the principal due to currency changes. Whilst the company will do its best to see that the loan is repaid in full, there is therefore a risk that this won't be possible.

During the period of the loan the company will inform the lender of the way the loan has been used.

Gifts to the company will be used either to invest in SMEs, or, where appropriate, to contribute to the running costs of the participating NGO.

Is it possible to achieve transformation through investments of this nature? What can a loan of, typically, €2,000 really accomplish? Here is just one example:

Djurdjica is married, a mother of four and formerly a hairdresser. Her husband, an alcoholic, threw her out of their house with their fourth child claiming that the child wasn't his. Djurdjica's friend, Branka (another of Integra's success stories) suggested that she might approach Integra for assistance and received a loan of €2,000 to start a small hairdressing salon. Along with the return of her previous customers, a radio campaign and advertising brought in new business and her salon is now flourishing. Djurdjica is not only able to provide for herself and her son, but will soon be able to support her three daughters. There are the beginnings of restored dignity and hope in her life.
